Permission to Be Human
I think there’s been a bit of a misconception regarding those who practice the art of abundant living and prosperity consciousness, folks. For the most part, it’s not a prevailing belief, but it is alive and well enough
Do coaches, teachers, speakers and other “experts” on the Law of Attraction and abundant living ever have “real life” problems? Oh, honey, you bet! Being a teacher of the abundant living doesn’t automatically convey infallibility, and it certainly doesn’t mean that we don’t have our bad days, that we don’t forget, that we don’t lose our way temporarily or that we don’t experience the same kind of frustration, complication and failure that everybody else does. This is life, and as long as you’re participating fully in it (and I certainly hope that you are!), then you’re going to run into frustrations, complications, so-called failures and setbacks. Just like anyone else, even those people you perceive to be “gurus” are going to have their bad days, going to forget temporarily, going to lose their way for a little while and going to experience the same kind of contrast and dynamics that all of humanity does.
Why? Because we -are- human beings. It’s just part of what we’re to experience and do. For some of us, though, we can really feel the pressure to look, act and speak “perfect”. We set ourselves up to be quintessential living examples of what it’s like to live fully in the flow, and when we sometimes stumble and wander -out- of it for a moment, it can be doubly hard for us to step back, look at the bigger picture, and let go of that need. …And yes, I am absolutely referring to myself as well, believe me.
But here’s the real issue. As teachers, we’re here to help other people step into their own wellbeing, to be of service to others and provide the teachings, tools and resources to assist others in living the kinds of illuminated lives that we know is within their grasp. How well are we really serving those we’re passionate about serving by pretending that we’re living above the nitty gritty that, in truth, besets us all? At the very least, it’s not presenting an accurate picture of what it’s like to reconcile being a “normal” human being with being a divine extension of Source energy. But at the worst, it can perpetuate this myth onto others that once you “get it”, everything just always goes your way. And in the end, when the very people we’re trying to help end up discovering that “real life” doesn’t work that way, it can potentially set them up for discouragement, disappointment or abandoning the pursuit of abundant living altogether.
The good news is that most of us really already know this deep down. We understand that ours is not to demonstrate any kind of perfection, and that in fact by readily acknowledging our own contrasts, complications and setbacks openly, we’re offered an opportunity that is pure magic and absolutely priceless for everyone observing. And for the record, I’d like to clarify my own stance on what it means for me to be a teacher of the law of attraction and the art of living in abundance.
I’d like to think that it’s far more valuable for me to acknowledge whatever issue I’m facing, move through it, and let my experience serve as a very “real world” example of what one can do when facing similar situations. I’d rather stumble, get angry and then work my through it gracefully, turning my full attention toward making my own way back into my own flow. It’s not only giving myself permission to be human. It’s giving everyone else around me, everyone looking at me, looking up to me even, permission to be human as well.
After all, while you’re on this planet, you’re going to be a human being, and your intention was never to shy away from the contrast of losing your way, because in the end it all serves you perfectly well. In theory, it might sound like a fantastic idea to fill your life only with things that please you, only with happy experiences, only with ideal situations. “Real life” is ever so much more vivid and colorful, interesting and dynamic. Giving yourself permission to experience, and even enjoy, the challenges is the fastest way to create that ideal life because it makes the challenges you face ideal for you as well.
So then… permission to be human granted? Absolutely, baby. As you were!
